When the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts opened on November 5 and November 19, 1990 respectively, some of the "backstage" areas of World Showcase could be seen from some of the upper guest room floors. Specifically, the back of the buildings in the France pavilion were in plain sight. So Disney Imagineers, in keeping with the idea that anything in guests' view was "onstage" and should be themed appropriately, created façades on the back of the buildings so everything would look "just right" to the Yacht and Beach Club guests.
