Disney held press events in New York City and Toronto this week to announce what’s coming next after the “Year of a Million Dreams” promotion ends in December. Beginning January 1, 2009, Disney Parks will start asking Guests, “What Will You Celebrate?” After presenting a national study by Ypartnership, a leading travel research firm, that explained that consumers are trending towards “celebration vacations” - taking a trip somewhere to mark a milestone or other special moments in their family’s life - and that Disney Parks topped the survey of destinations for those “celebration vacations,” details of the 2009 promotion were revealed. “What Will You Celebrate?” will feature new decorations in the parks with festive balloons and “Celebrate Today” signs. Guests will be encouraged to customize their Disney vacations with add-on experiences ranging from custom cakes and signature desserts, to family portrait sessions with PhotoPass Photographers, to having your resort room decorated for the occasion, among other things. New street parties will be held in the Parks, and a dance party with Stitch will be held in Tomorrowland. The centerpiece of the promotion is that guests can receive free admission to one of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks on their birthday in 2009. The guest will need to produce proof of their birth date, and can receive either a 1-day, 1-park admission ticket for that day, or an alternate birthday treat if they already have an Annual Pass or multi-day ticket (choices include a ‘birthday fun card’ equal to the price of a 1-day ticket for use on your birthday for merchandise, recreation, or fun activities at select participating locations; a special birthday FASTPASS badge; or a 1-day MYW base ticket good for 1 year).
