Okay, this post is a little late. I had intended to write on Father’s Day evening, but was just too tired after a long day celebrating dad and my dear husband - especially after a very exciting evening the night before that, when I attended the R.E.M. concert at Jones Beach, during which the outdoor theater I was sitting in was struck by lightning. So as I was sitting down to write last night, I’m noticing the clouds are getting very ominous looking. A quick check of the Weather Channel showed thunderstorms coming our way, but the warning had just expired and it looked as if they were lessening on the radar. Just as a precaution, I shut down the computer and went to check on my husband and son, who were in the front yard watching the approaching clouds. Next thing I know, the house is rocked by a gust of wind, my husband comes barreling through the front door with my son under his arm, everything got very very dark, and SNAP the tree in front of the house is torn apart. Three trees on the neighbors’ lawns are all laying over, completely ripped off at the roots. Wires are down across the street, and large limbs blocked the road. Our bbq grill did a cartwheel across the back yard and wound up laying on its lid, and all the patio furniture tried to make a run for the yard next door. As fast as that, we experienced our first, very small tornado. Thankfully, the damage is minimal, and no one was hurt. We lost power for the rest of the evening, and ended up hanging around the table doing algebra review by flashlight. In honor of my little misadventure, today’s preview lot is “Disney Channel Game Night.” While you may not be able to play the included “Hannah Montana CD Game” without electricity, there’s always “Monopoly Jr. - Disney Channel Edition.” To round out the lot, there’s the High School Musical edition of... (wait for it....) “Twister.”
