When asked to name their favorite Disney character, most people will name one of the “main” characters, namely Mickey, Minnie, Donald, or Goofy. (In my humble opinion, while Daisy is Donald´s girlfriend, she doesn´t show up enough to count as a main character.) But let´s not forget Mickey´s steadfast and loyal companion! I remain a determined advocate for Pluto. Yes, Goofy has more appearances, and who doesn´t love that signature yell? But I mean, come on, is Image the really better than Pluto? Last time I checked, Goofy didn´t fetch the paper or guard the house for Mickey. Sure, his clumsy antics are always good for a few laughs. However, I´d get tired of my friends really fast if they were always breaking and bungling things.

Recently while engaging in this argument with a good friend, they pointed out that Goofy has been "around" longer, around being a loose term for recognized. I will concur, Goofy is older and probably has more fans. But then again, N.C. State has more fans than Duke in Raleigh, yet which team is

statistically better? It was also argued that Goofy was superior, being able to walk on two legs, talk, and dress himself. If I were walking down the street, though, and a half-dog/half-man approached me, I´d probably be too busy running to notice the superiority it had to normal dogs. Besides, isn´t it often said that less is more, and that the originals are better. If you try to spiff dogs up too much, the results could be disastrous.

Still, this is all my personal opinion, and I have no grudge against those who choose Goofy over Pluto. I just think that Pluto happens to be a more likable character. After all, who is Mickey living with?
