The Walt Disney World Resort is bustling with special events throughout the year.
From celebrations surrounding the holidays (like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party) to events that target a specific group of guests (ESPN The Weekend or Star Wars Weekends at the Disney-MGM Studios for example), the Walt Disney World Resort has kept the whole family in mind when planning out these special showcases. Some of Disney’s most popular special events, however, are located at Epcot. Every spring, this theme park is in full bloom for the Epcot International Flower and Garden festival. During this weeks-long event, Epcot is the center for a colorful array of flowers, elaborate gardens and over-the-top topiaries! But, perhaps the biggest special event at the Walt Disney World Resort, and one of the most well known, is the upcoming Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. This 12th-annual showcase features the flavors of the world, as guests can explore marketplaces featuring regional foods, wines and beers, learn from renowned chefs at special demonstrations and programs and sample the finest cuisine from around the globe at all of the pavilions around the World Showcase.
The hub for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which will take place from September 28-November 11, 2007, is located at the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot. Here, you will find a Festival Wine Shop, complimentary wine seminars, a champagne, wine and beer bar and the official book-signing location for celebrity authors and chefs who are out on site. Guests can also explore the Stockpot, a large merchandise section with gifts ranging from Disney gift cards to other exclusive festival memorabilia and merchandise. From there, guests will want to head straight on over to the World Showcase, where all the real fun begins. Over 25 international marketplaces will be set up throughout the World Showcase pavilions, and guests can sample regional and authentic wines and appetizer-sized bites ranging anywhere from $2.00-$4.00 depending on the location. These marketplaces will be set up amidst paintings inspired by food and wine by artists from China, Italy and France, among others, and will carry out the theme for the event, “Tastefully Inspired,” which is an emphasis on the creativity behind both art and food. Marketplaces will be present from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Continental Europe, Latin America, North America, the Caribbean and the Pacific Rim. Guests can also enjoy special exhibits that will be set up throughout Epcot for the festival. These cultural displays will not only feature fabulous cuisine, but also wine walkabouts and informative culinary demonstrations from leading chefs all around the world. Other activities on hand for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival include a “Pearville Fair” located in the American Adventure, where guests can learn all about pears and ways to incorporate them into everyday recipes, a new Dominican Republic experience, the weekly Party for the Senses, which features live entertainment from Cirque du Soleil’s resident show at the Walt Disney World Resort, La Nouba, and of course the nightly Eat to the Beat! concert series that performs three times a night at the America Gardens Theatre in the U.S.A Pavilion at Epcot. These top musical entertainment acts will include The Beach Boys, Little Richard, Chubby Checker and the Wildcats and more of your favorite classic rock, oldies, jazz and funk musical groups. Admission into Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival is included with general park admission. This theme park may be a tad bit busier during this celebration, but it truly is one of the best festivals at any theme park around the world and is one that shouldn’t be missed!
