A furious storm once rolled across the seas shipwrecking a shrimp boat at the peak of its mountain. Or at least that´s part of Disney´s legend of how Typhoon Lagoon was created. Many people often go to the four main parks and bypass Typhoon Lagoon. However, being one of Disney´s two water parks, it has some great charm that the twenty something Disney generation will love.

Typhoon Lagoon is one of my favorite places on the Disney grounds. While both water parks have great perks, to me, Typhoon Lagoon has a little bit more of old-school Disney charm. When it was built, water parks were not a huge deal. Th
ey were around, but they were a little less state-of-the-art as some of the new water parks that are around today.

Why go to Typhoon Lagoon? Well for one, it´s cheaper than spending an entire day in a Disney park. There are still plenty of things to do to take up most of a day. A perfect place for a group of friends, a first date, or an outing as a couple, typhoon lagoon has many different options to spend your day.

As for attractions that the older crowd will like, one of them is the storm slides. This attraction consists of three slides that you go on without an inner tube. There is one line for all three slides, and each slide is different. The three slides are the Jib Jammer, Stern Burner or Rudder Buster. You can reach speeds of up to thirty miles per hour before you land in the pool below.

Another attraction is Crush `n´ Gusher. For this attraction, there are also three different slides on the top. However, you have to ride with an inner tube. This is what most would call a water coaster, where the water pushes you up and down on this crazy slide. Just make sure to hold on and keep your bottom off the ground! Another great attraction is the fact that they offer surf lessons in the park. It is a two hour session for people with all types of surf experience. They even have a surf pool that you can rent for your own event.

Now you may be thinking that this sounds like a lot of fun, but I want to relax. Is there any place to relax? Of course there is! Typhoon Lagoon is full of sandy-white beaches. The perfect spot to spend a day to rest, relax, read a book, take a nap, or get a tan! Another attraction that is for the people who are on a slower pace is Castaway Creek. This is their version of the lazy river which is at most water parks throughout the world. While the river does get crowded on weekends with children, during the off season or during the week, it is not crowded at all.

On my last trip to Typhoon Lagoon, I went with my boyfriend. We had been dating for about three years at the time. We went on a Saturday, so it was a bit crowded. However, we had an amazing time. Our favorite quickly became Crush `n´ Gusher. We tried all three slides numerous times; the only bad thing was the long walk up! My favorite, as it had been as a little child, were the storm slides. I went on each slide a couple times. It was absolutely just as I remembered it, and still a lot of fun. We also spent lots of time on Castaway Creek, my boyfriend´s favorite, and we had lunch at Typhoon Tilly´s which serves burgers and all sort of different fun water park food. We spent from 10 a. m. until 3 p. m. there and then went home and took a nap. It was an amazing time. It still is one of my favorite places since the first time I was there as a little child with my family.

Typhoon Lagoon is the perfect place for the twenty something Disney generation to hang out and it is also a great place for families of all ages. Get your swimsuit, grab a towel, and head on out! Just don´t forget your sunscreen!
