Listener Sue (SamIAm717) wrote in about a Disney survey that both she and I participated in.
The survey was about voices, personalities, and first impressions. The questions consisted of different speakers saying the same phrase, such as "Welcome! How can I help you today? Tell me briefly what you´re calling about, like, `Can I make a reservation?´ or `I need a golf course tee time.´" "I´d love to reserve you a table at our restaurant. First, tell me the date you would like to come dine with us."
The survey was only open to 75 people, which seems somewhat low, but played a series of voice prompts that asked Guests to describe whether they felt they were helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, gave you that "Disney feeling", etc. You were then asked to rate which of the voices seemed to best convey that feeling or demeanor.
It makes me wonder what is next - will you be able to call in and use voice prompts to make a resort reservation? What about ADRs? If so, will they put into place certain safeguards to prevent overbooking like I suggested some time ago? With the completion of the computer upgrades that will allow for how reservations are made that I spoke of a couple of weeks ago, coupled with the computers in the Guest rooms like the Contemporary Resort is doing now, I wonder if there are additional features such as this that Disney will begin to roll out.
Rumors are circulating that Rock `n Roller Coaster has a tentative rehab scheduled for September 2 through September 30, 2007. These dates have not been confirmed.
Some other rumors coming out of the Disney-MGM Studios this week include a few new ones, as well as more details about some rumors from some time ago.
First, it does appear as though we may be getting a new show at the old ABC Theater in Spring, 2008. The roof work permits that were filed recently that we discussed a few weeks ago may just be the first step into filling the empty theater.
Next, The Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade appears as thought it will be replaced with an updated version of Disneyland´s Block Party Bash sometime in March, 2008.
Young Jedis rejoice, as The Jedi Training Academy will soon be added as a year-round offering starting later this year, with work on a new stage location commencing later this month.
And for those of us with young kids (and who personally are fans of Playhouse Disney), the Playhouse Disney Live on Stage! Show looks as though it will be getting the rumored changes to the show´s lineup, with the very popular Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters replacing our good friends Bear in the Big Blue House, Stanley, and The Book of Pooh segments.
Across the plaza in the Animation Courtyard, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show appears to be getting some type of refurbishment in the Fall, 2007, although no details as to the length and/or type of change is evident as yet.
Heading down Mickey Avenue, the Sorcerer Mickey meet and greet MAY be moving during construction of Toy Story Mania to a permanent location, this time in the Magic of Disney Animation building, whose entrance is also at the back of the Animation Courtyard. This new venue is expected to open before the busy holiday season and if the rumors are true, will have a huge backdrop depicting the entire Sorcerer´s Apprentice scene from Fantasia.
This rumor has also fueled more in the whole Studios name-change-game rumor saga. While I am very suspect of a change of the name of the Studios themselves to the Disney-Pixar Studios, recent filings, and the addition of this rumor starts to lend credibility to the rumor that Mickey Avenue will instead be renamed "Pixar Place." I am looking more into this part of the rumor and will continue to update you as I hear more.
In Epcot, O Canada is listed on Disney´s web site as being closed from August 20 to August 24, 2007. This will likely be to install the new film, which would then debut on August 25th.
I heard a VERY unofficial rumor - which I am trying to get confirmation on - is that Cinderella Castle MAY be getting a little added decoration this holiday season. Rumor is that hundreds of lights will be added to the exterior, with work on the Castle going on from September until November when the holiday season kicks off with the first Mickey´s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Finally, at the Magic Kingdom, it appears as though another abandoned (at least to Guests) venue may be reopening in the future. Saddle up partners, as the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland MAY be opening during peak times of the year as an added buffet location, much as what they´ve done to the Noodle Station in Tomorrowland. I´ll look for more information, but look for a possible opening during this coming Holiday season. Remember though, it might not be open all day or even every day even if this rumor is true
