Br'er Rabbit

Hey all.

Quick question. The last few times I have been to WDW I have seen Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox. However, I have NEVER seen Br'er Rabbit around Frontierland or Splash Mountain. Does he ever come out? Also, why would Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear come out and not Br'er Rabbit?

Yes, Br'er Rabbit makes appearances also. At least he has in the past, as I have met him a few times.

The Brer characters pretty much do not meet anymore. The only place they can be found (outside of Brer Bear once in awhile at AK) is in parades and Hoedown.

Well, the last three times I have been to Disney, May of 2001, September of 2004, and September of 2007, I saw Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear in Frontierland each time for a meet and greet. I never saw Br'er Rabbit ever in the parks for a meet and greet.

The 3 Brers still do make appearances for meet-and-greets, but they currently aren't as common as they were in previous years.

All 3 Brers are still known to make very sporadic and random appearances at the Magic Kingdom, usually at the Toontown Teardrop (the dead end-like area next to the Mickey's Toontown Fair train station).

Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit are also still known to make random appearances at the Oasis (the Animal Kingdom main entrance area).

Brer Bear has also appeared outside The American Adventure at Epcot on extremely rare occasions.

And if you go to the Hilton hotel near Downtown Disney on a Sunday morning, Brer Fox and Brer Bear have been known to show up at that hotel's character breakfast.

So, until they decide to start bringing the Brers out for sets on a regular daily basis again, it's pretty much hit or miss as to whether or not you'll find our pals Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear greeting guests in the parks.

EDIT: If you really want to see the Brers be brought back out into the parks as regular characters again, I highly recommend that you write letters to WDW and/or stop by Guest Relations in the parks to let them know that you want to see more of them.

I've seen Brer Rabbit around the exit if Splash Mountain, near the playground by the Mickey's Starland train station and at Camp Minnie-Mickey in AK, but he's a pretty rare catch

That won't be happening, unfortunately.

Would you please not act like that?!

I'm only sharing tips and advice, that's all. No need to be such a pessimistic know-it-all killjoy.

I'm only stating what is true, thank you. The Brers are being removed from the parks.

Interesting... Since the theme of Splash Mountain is Br'er <fill in the blank> I think that would be rather difficult. What would the theme of Splash Mountain be then? The Emperor's New Grove?

Splash Mountain is an homage to the wonderful characters given to the world by the Uncle Remus stories. I do highly doubt these characters are being removed from the parks.

You show me some edict on official letterhead stating that, I will believe you. If this is something a CM has said, I hold as much water in that as most buckets full of holes.

There doesn't have to be a theme for there to be characters out. So just because the theme of Splash Mountain has the Brers in it doesn't mean that they have to be out. Characters get retired all the time.

Indeed. The Big Bad Wolf, The Three Little Pigs, etc were retired a while ago but those characters never had a ride or theme associated with them. It would seem strange to retire characters who relate back to one of the most popular rides in all of Disney.

Good point.

I still can't see them retiring the Brer walk-around characters from the parks completely for several reasons such as what RBrooksC already stated above.
