Anyone out there old enough to remember when the Yuppies took over Disneyland? We got got free tickets for our next visit(E tickets, remember those). I now, feel bad about the poor folks visiting for the first time. And those from other countries. Being from San Diego and able to go all the time I did not think of that. I could not imagine getting to WDW and having to leave because a bunch of folks, desided to take over. They ruined our day that day. But we had fun as always. Even though they had the National gaurd on the roof tops upon our exit.
It was funny, now that I remember back, it started on Tom Sawyers Island. and morfed from there. Anyone out there know why they did it? I was to young to know or care at the time. I was just unhappy with having to leave... was there a point? It was kept very quiet. Or I was just to young to remember. I think I was 12.... Mom cant remember either...![]() |

It was in August 6, 1970 and it was a hippie movement called yippies (Yuppies are too busy driving BMWs to care about taking over Disney.)
The raised a Viet Cong flag at Ft Wilderness. They were smoking joints. Anaheim police in riot gear (not the National Guard) came in and dispursed the crowds. It was a general war protest RU

Yuppies invade Disneyland
Quote:
Mom told me it was the National Gaurd. She is getting up there and can barely remember where her car keys are. LOL I just remember the funny smelling smoke on Tom Sawyers Island, my Dad (a narcotic agent) Knew exactly what it was. He confronted a few of them, and got us out of there pretty quickly. It was a fun day. And more exciting than we expected. BTW, thank you all that welcomed me. And thanks for helping remember the details RU. ![]() |

Wow, that kinda makes me wonder why we were not warned. But I must say they handled it well. The employees never missed a beat as far as could tell. But what does a 10 year old know? My day was cut short and that was a bummer man... LOL hippie talk. Peace

Home at last near Mickey!

I don't remember the incident, even though I was definitely old enough to read about it. Can you imagine what would happen to a protest group trying to take over WDW during Mousefest or during a Hannah Montana concert?
