Indy's Rat Room Fixed
I have just heard that the rat room in Indiana Jones has been fixed/updated. Apparently now you can see the rats falling into your jeep as you drive under. Rats not sounding familar? Don't worry, I've been on the ride countless times along with a lot of my friends and we never realized they were rats until one of them noticed that you could tell what was going on now. It is the room where you are in the dark and there seems to be some light flying at your head. We could never tell what it was. We thought it was either a spiderweb that we were supposed to have gone through or a low boulder than almost hit our heads. Now we know that it was in fact mice falling as its apparently clear as day (also listen for the sound of the mice). Supposedly they updated the technology with the same that Davy Jones uses in PotC.

Oh, and on a personal note. This is probably the greatest ride ever created by Disney, bar none. For those that haven't been on it, find a way to go do it. For those that will never get to go on it, I just want to give you a hug and feel sorry for you.

See. As soon as I heard that the rat thing was fixed I was confused as heck.
But apparently you can see the rats and even see the distinct colors of each. If you go and listen to the ride audio you can hear the sound effects of rats at the point in the ride it would be. I'm trying to get a video for you guys. |

Yes, the "rat" section. For the longest time, it was just a stretch of darkness, since certain folks who couldn't seem to be able to keep their hands to themselves like to rip down/otherwise destroy the material that the critters were projected onto (ggggrrrrrrr........).
For those folks who were unlucky enough to have to ride this one without the effects, the imagineers made it appear as though scores of rodents were racing on a beam over the path of your vehicle; with the occasional ones falling off (the sounds of thump! thump! thump! off the hood of the jeep were a very nice touch). |

Smoke may be part of it, but I'm almost positive there was some kind of screen involved behind the fog, maybe helping keep it forming in the right place?
All I know is that on one weekend visit quite some time ago, there was something hanging in shreds where the rats were supposed to be scurrying across. Needless to say, there was one very annoyed fanboy onboard the jeep........ |

Well I do know at one point it was so bad it looked like shreds or cob webs. Perhaps that was it. But I'm not doubting the fact that there would be something keeping the smoke compacted. Who knows?

Interesting. I first went on the ride just a month or two after it opened, and I spotted right away that it was rats running across (what I thought was) a tree branch, or the roots of a tree sticking through the ceiling. Still, I'll be watching for it next time I go to see what the updated effects look like.
Forbidden Eye is my favorite ride in the park. (I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan, too. )

It is currently still fixed.... for the longest time it was blank and looked more like a spider's web.
