I went to the park today intending to do my usual 1 1/2 walk 1/2 jog, but instead I was only able to walk 1 mi before the rain hit. Hopefully, I can go first thing in the morning and finish my jogging.

I kind of thought that but I wasn't sure. I am cetaintly no expert!

They are calling for snow on Thanksgiving. It is going to be a very cold run in the morning. Living in the northeast I knew I would be running in the snow, but I was hoping not this early. Oh well

Running in the cold (23 degrees @ 2pm )for the first time was not fun at all. The cold air made my whole body stiffen up and had a hard time trying to regulate my breathing. My body feels like it went a couple of rounds with a boxer. I will not let that keep me down. As Walt liked to say I have to " keep moving forward".

Oh come on, I had to run in 53 degree weather today. Keep in mind that that is fairly cold for down here. Don't give up, I need someone to keep me motivated.

No giving up here. I am committed. Plus I would take 53 degree over 23 degree anyday.

Well here is my update:
I'm still only jogging a 1/2 mi, but I have increased my "power" walking to 3 mi. However, I have gained everything I had lost because of Thanksgiving. Hopefully, my upcoming Disney trip and Christmas won't throw my diet off too much.

Getting used to the cold air. I was able to increase my pace today! Matt I hear you about hoping being able to stay on your diet at the World. I am hoping that when I go down in January I am also able to stay on my diet. Of course staying at SSR I think I will be able to get in a good morning run everyday.

I am going to try to keep running while I'm there, but I'm not going to worry about my diet. Mostly because, through Disney Magic, all Disney food is fat free and and no calories (at least thats what I tell myself)!

Yeah I know what you guys are talking about with the weather...its rough down here too, 85 degreesss, burrrr haha just kidding...Move to Florida, its great! I ran 18 miles on Saturday morning and it was low 70s with sun, beautiful. I just hope the marathon doesnt have the weather we saw 2 years ago, 29 at the start. Thats too cold for my blood, but hey running is all about going no matter what the conditions! I'm ready for anything! I hope everyones training is going great!

Haha thanks for rubbing it in! The problem here in MS is not so much the cold temperature, but the humidity. Just how the humidity makes things hotter in the summer, it makes things colder in the winter. But it still nothing compared to New York I'm sure!
As far as moving to Florida, I paln to in a few years.

Good luck with your training!

I am a beginner runner, looking forward to finishing (positive thinking here) the 2008 half marathon. (In less than 7 weeks!) My long run this weekend was 10 miles long... I can't believe it!

I am by no means an expert but I can tell you a few things that have helped me:

1) Run slow. Like, slower than you think you should. You should be able to talk in complete sentences, and not be out of breath. (Who knew?!)
2) Go to a running shoe store and get fitted for a good pair of running shoes.
3) The book Marathoning for Mortals.
4) The book The Complete Idiot's Guide to Running.

Have fun!
