No MVMCP This Year?

WDW News Today is confirming some rumors and offering some interesting news regarding changes to the holiday offerings at Walt Disney World this year. It seems the Cinderella Castle lights will happen and it may finally be time for a new holiday parade.

In some big news, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas parade will not be presented this year. In it’s place will be a new holiday parade titled “Mickey’s Once upon a Christmastime Parade”. Another big change to this year’s Christmas festivities will be the lighting of the Castle, which will be a nightly show with characters lighting up a Cinderella Castle adorned in thousands of Christmas lights.

I am certainly looking forward to seeing the lights on Cinderella’s Castle, though the possibility of going over the top here is certainly a concern. But if it is done well and with class, looking down Main Street U.S.A, through the “snow” coming off the buildings and the wonderful decorations, at a lit up castle has some serious “wow” potential.

For those of us who torture ourselves every Christmas morning with the 2 hour, horribly produced and overly canned Christmas Parade broadcast can at least look forward to finally seeing something new. Now, if they can only find a host or two that have some level of watch-ability.

i liked MVMCP!! i hope they dont make a mistake! i had a feeling something would change when MOUAC and MTUAC came out on video!

I think this could be a good change. A new parade could bring more people who haven't been to MVMCP in a while, I think they would like to see something new.
I've seen MVMCParade too many times and I would like to see something new.

Also, I agree with the suggestion to change hosts on the televised version of the parade. I thinks we've had enough of Regis and Kelly for now.

Well, supposedly Regis & Kelly are confirmed again for this year. Filming is scheduled for Dec. 1 - 3 according to the Jim Hill site.

The lights on Cinderella Castle are supposed to be similar to something done at Disneyland Paris. There is a video podcast on Inside the Magic (Inside the Magic Archive - Disney Audio, Video, Top 3's, and More ... scroll down to the VIDEO podcast #74) that shows the Paris castle all lit up. It looks pretty, but not sure how it will look in the daytime with all the light strings on the walls (much like the backlot streets look with all the Osborne Lights on them).

And I wouldn't worry too much about the parade - think of the "new" parades we've gotten lately (i.e. "Let's take the snowglobe tops off and call it a new parade").

It appears that just the parade will be changing. On the WDW website they have the dates for MVMCP.

Your thread title is very misleading since it's only the parade that is changing. MVMCP (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas PARTY) is very much still happening!

Well this is sad and interesting...the parade hasn't seen many changes for as long as I can remember, some characters have changed here and there, but little has really been different. It's gonna be sad to see it go but I hope that the new one is just as wonderful! Just dont make it become the Disney (but mostly Pixar) Christmas Parade...lol

My heart dropped when I read the Title...............................am so Happy its just the Parade is getting a "Makeover" as I,ve already booked & paid for tickets to "MVMCP" ON 11th December

........................I like the sound of the Castle with lots of lights but wonder if it will spoil the "Daytime" view of it & will it still change colour at night or will the lights be like static..........
