OK now I am getting so excited! I will be there in 4 more days! What day is everyone else getting there? Oh, I am staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. How about you?

Hey Piglet!! Tracy and I will be at French Quarter also. I'll be getting in on Thursday afternoon and Tracy will be getting in on Friday evening. We're meeting at Scat Cat's Friday night at 8:00. But if you're running that may not be good.

When are you getting in?

I am staying at French Quarter Saturday and Sunday night. I am arriving at Disney on friday, but I am staying at my brother's house on friday night (he lives right behind the Magic Kingdom). Are you guys going to be at Scat's on saturday night as well? I don't know if I can be there on Friday night, I will try. I am walking the Marathon on Sunday. But I will be at the Saturday afternoon Tomorrowland meet for sure.

Now that all of the Mile Markers have been named, I thought it may be a tad bit fun to write out a little script on how Lou's WDW Half-Marathon might go. Each of the mile markers has been "identified and scriptified" into the story. Hope you all enjoy it as it is all in the name of fun. Congratulations to all of our winners and thank you to everyone who participated in our little.....ha ha...little....Half Marathon Challenge Series over these past few months. I have posted a link to the Marathon Mile Marker map below which Jeff Pepper of www.2719hyperion.com (he even creates logos) was kind enough to create. Feel free to click on the link to open the map, which will serve as the guide for our narrative. And with that.....on with our story.

It’s Saturday, January 12, 2008 and Half-Marathoners from around the world have gathered at Walt Disney World to begin a 13 Mile trek of epic proportions. On a glorious January morning, thousands approach the Starting Line, deeply motivated to push themselves to the limit. With Spaceship Earth in the background, Lou Mongello and his Merry Band of loyal followers exalt with glee “My Oh My What a Wonderful Day!”

And as the starting pistol rings out with a quick “Bang!”, the runners are off. As the pack begins the first leg of their journey and makes their way outside of Epcot and approaches Mile #1, they can’t help but relish the idea that this is truly A Lou Beginning. After all, it is in the spirit of good health that they are participating in this run...that, and the commemorative medal that awaits them should they finish. As the stretch of pavement draws closer to Mile #2 the runners draw near to The Expedition: Erik Summit. “The Summit?”, many wonder. “We’ve only just begun. But we are beginning to reach our peak performance…so let’s keep pushing.”

Down the straightaway and settling into a nice pace, Mile #3 comes into focus. Runners think how charming this Charm of a mile has been. “3 down, 10 more to go. Not a problem, I got this half marathon thing licked,” Lou so confidently thinks to himself. Even his fellow marathoners are feeling pretty good about their first wind. Curving around the race track, the parking lot, and right through the Ticket and Transportation Center, Mile # 4 makes its presences known. Mickey Meister Mile marks a magical gateway as everyone knows that the Magic Kingdom is not far away. And perhaps, just perhaps, Mickey himself may not be too far off either.

Past the Contemporary Resort and into Tomorrowland, our joggers are really working up a sweat now. In fact, they are pushing through Mile #5, and they know that those Grim Grinning Ghosts can’t be too far ahead of them. “And just why are they grinning,” you may ask. Well, you’d be grinning too if your home just got a little bit of sprucing up. But enough with the home improvements, we have a race to run…so our guests make their strides count as they approach Liberty Square and make way into Frontierland. They are almost halfway finished….almost, but not quite. Mile #6 passes by. Runners can only use their Imagination, and imagine themselves standing proudly at the finish line, holding their heads up high. But they keep their heads down and focus, since 7 more miles await.

Speaking of the #7, Mile #7 was comin’ round the mountain…well, by this point, everyone had already been round the mountain. Two mountains as a matter of fact, both Space and Big Thunder. However, lost in his daydreaming of being finished with the race, Lou realized that his wife was quite a ways ahead of him by this point. He thought to himself, “Someday I’ll Find My Love”, but I have to hurry if I want to catch up with her…”Deeeeaaaaannnnnaaaa, wait up!” But there is no slowing up by this point, as some more twists and turns begin to unfold on Mile #8. After all, This Here’s the Wildest Mile in the Marathon. You can almost hear the cavalry charge music over the rolling prairies.

It’s at this point where another straightaway begins to stretch out. Lou and his fellow runners can feel the burn, not to be outmatched by the burn of desire that still fills their spirit. Mile #9 is here, the race is more than half over. Lou quickly recollects to himself…”I believe, according to the 2008 Unofficial Guide that we are now on Len Testa’s Mile O’Mongello. Somewhere, a faint “Ding” is heard in the distance, and everyone is smiling. But those smiles don’t last too long, as the grins start to turn to grimacing expressions as the sweat pours for the final leg. But perspiration quickly sparks inspiration, as Lou remembers why he chose to run this race in the first place. And with Mile #10 just around the bend, he tells himself “If You Can Dream It, Then You Can Do It (for at least 3.1 more miles).”

It’s now Mile #11, yes, yes, yes! The runners feel that extra boost of energy flow as Spaceship Earth once again reveals itself in the foreground. Just 2 miles to go, and then you can “Take Me to My Laughing Place”, that is, if I have enough energy left to take myself there. The pace continues, with a little extra pep in everyone’s step, but the end just seems to get a bit further away. Mile #12 approaches… “Are We There Yet?”. “Almost!” shouts Lou. “It’s just right through these gates.”

So the pack goes through the gates, under the giant geodesic sphere, and around the world. Mile #13 is drawing near, and Lou’s stumblin’ and a bumblin’ through the final few hundred feet. “I’m not gonna make it”, he starts the say, but a voice on the side shouts out, “This Way to the Ambulance, Lou!” But he’s not gonna quit now, there’s no way, not a chance. A look of determinations crosses his face, digs way down deep, and crosses the Finish Line. His fellow marathoners follow, they’ve completed their dream. Then the last runner says “I’m Done! I hear Lou’s Buying Beaches & Cream.”

I believe that some runners still have the 1/2 (Goofy) Marathon to complete today, but I just found where you can get results. I haven't checked for anybody in particular yet, but I'm going to go do that right now!
